FEATURED MUST-SEE NEWS TRENDING

It’s Not Too Late to Swing into Spider-Man 2

Releasing exclusively for the PS5 on October 20th, 2023

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman is back again!

Spider-Man is so much more than just a Marvel character. This individual may be fictional, but their story spans across generations and cultures around the world. Just the tagline is immediately recognizable by even non-Marvel fans. “With great power come great responsibility”, is so iconic that people don’t even realize that it originally belonged to Winston Churchill, not Spider-Man.

That’s what makes Spider-Man so special, his struggles and youthful outlook feel familiar and relatable to most of us. And there has never been a better time to be a Spider-Man fan than right now. This IP continues to grow in size each year. From movies, videogames, and of course comics, Spider-Man is very much in right now.

Luckily for us, Sony has their thumb on the cultural pulse line and keeps delivering us new and amazing Spider-Man exclusives to indulge in our Spidey fantasies. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 promises to deliver us another story driven action game filled with some of the most iconic characters from the comics and cinematic universe. Most notably, everyone’s favorite anti-hero, Venom.

We Are All Spider-Man. - MJ Parker

This story picks up shortly after where Spider-Man: Miles Morales leaves off. Peter Parker and Miles Morales are still doing their thing, web slinging around fighting crime. But Insomniac Gaming has decided to take this sequel in a bit of a darker direction. Marvel’s Bill Rosemann stated, “If the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire [Strikes Back]”.

Confirmed Characters

A Spider-Man game wouldn’t be nearly as awesome without all of the supporting characters that the IP has thrown at us over the years. Below are all of the known characters that will be in the game. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few more hidden throughout.

  • Ganke Lee
  • Harry Osborn
  • Kraven
  • Lizard (Curt Connors)
  • Mary-Jane Watson
  • Martin Li/Mister Negative
  • Norman Osborn
  • Rio Morales
  • Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
  • Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
  • Venom
  • Wraith (Yuri Watanabe)

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Map Size

One of the most important aspects of these games is being able to fully explore New York City. And honestly, the previous entries in this catalog have done a wonderful job at that task. That being said, Spider-Man 2’s version of New York City will reportedly be twice the size of the previous games. This game will feature not only Manhattan but also Queens and Brooklyn.

Insomniac’s Mike Fitzgerald gives some insight into the new design stating, “Queens has a very residential feel to it that's a little different from parts of Manhattan. Brooklyn has its own landmarks of course. We're excited for players who know Brooklyn and are familiar with the area to find unique buildings that they recognize from our New York in the same way.”

All of this is in an effort to make the player’s world feel more alive. Insomniac promises a thriving world filled with a diverse population and a functioning city. If you look into a building on Fifth Avenue, there will be people going about their lives, as opposed to just being able to view some shuttered windows.
