Will you try and escape the Klowns from another universe, or make twisted cotton candy of the humans?
Fans of the horror gaming genre will be pleased to know that another iconic horror franchise is about to be added to the roster. Killer Klowns from Outer Space will be released on June 4, 2024. This goofy horror comedy has been a cult classic since its release in 1988. This iconic film is beloved for its over the top campiness and hilarious kills.
This game will be brought to us by Teravision and Randy Greenback, who previously worked on such titles as Friday the 13th: The Game. Randy is known for providing fan service and a complete understanding of the genres to his projects. As such, Killer Klowns from Outer Space promises to bring the humor that fans loved from the film into the gaming world.

The game will split players into two teams that will battle each other for the fate of the planet. Players can choose each match to play as one of the seven humans or one of three clowns. At this time, we know of seven playable clown characters.
These are the Tank, the Trapster, the Tracker, the Scout, and the Fighter. Each of these clowns will be equipped with a zany ray gun and unique abilities players can use to hunt down the human characters. The human characters will have to explore the map in search of loot to fight off this Klown invasion.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space premiered at Gamescom in 2022. However, updates about the title have been sparse since this initial announcement. That was until August 2023, when it was announced that IllFonic would join the project after Good Shepard Entertainments left the team.
IllFonic has previously made a name for themselves by working on projects such as Preator: Hunting Grounds and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. The new team is making big waves leading up to the release date. Recently, IllFonic announced that they would be showing a preview of the title at PAX East.
IllFonic has stated that this will be a hands on experience. Gamers will get to play the game from March 21 to March 24. There will also be an in depth discussion involving the game developers and the movie's creators, the Chiodo Bros.
The game also recently released a trailer that feels like a campier version of Camp Crystal Lake. This sets the tone for the game, allowing it to be tense and comedic simultaneously. This is likely intentional, given Randy's work on Friday the 13th: the game. If this promotional effort is any indication of what the game will be like, we are all in for a treat.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game will be released on June 4 via Steam for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Preorder bonuses include one week of advanced access, two human cosmetics, one Klown skin, and one Klown character. The digital deluxe upgrade will include two human characters (Mike and Debbie), two Klown skins (Junksuits), one movie skin (Bibbo), the digital soundtrack, as well as the digital artbook.
Given everything we have seen about the game up until this point, Killer Klowns from Outer Space looks to be a great addition to the asymmetrical horror genre. Its fun and whacky gameplay may just pump some new blood into this style of gaming. And if not, it's sure to be a fun ride.
