Jedi Starfighter ETA-2 (2)
Definitley the most popular EP3 craft so far. Jay has been working on this since late last year 2004 when there was virtually NO references available.

Description:
Well I've been working on this on and off for a couple of weeks now (11/2004), but didn't post, because I didn't get very far do to lack of references. _DAC_ posted his Anakin Fighter thread and recieved some good refernces. So I was back in buisness on this. I'm still looking for some good references on the rear and bottom of the ship, so if you come across any just post them or the link here. I have the same references that _DAC_ has in his thread.

Well here it is. I think this is the color scheme for Obi Wan's ship.

Just cut out the socket for the R2 unit. For the life of me, I still can't figure out how a full astro-droid can fit in me. I'm thinking about modelling the full droid or downloading a mesh just to see if it fits. I'm still betting that the feet will be hanging out of the bottom the hull.

Description:
I'm back with version 2 of this starfighter. I actually started this back in january, but was frustrated every time a new reference would come out and have to re model parts of the ship. Anway I see more and more EP3 fighters being built and a lot more references, so after six months of doing nothing on this, it might be a good time to continue. And before some one tells me the color scheme is al wrong, I know, I'm just playing around.

Not exactly R-4 G9 but it has its paint scheme. This is a modified astro-mech I've been working on and off for about a year, but it looked like crap so never used it until now. Anyway...

Description:
I decided to model most of the pannles instead of using bump maps.

Small update, added tie-fighter like pannles to the other side of the winglets.

Description:
Decided to rework the cockpit. The windows were a bit off, and I upped the polys a little bit. It's only the front half, you can see that it no longer matches with the back, but the back half is the easy part. I'm also debating about doing the interior, it may be possible with the references I have, but I would have to draw information from pics of the revell model.

While I'm waiting for more references, thought I would start putting the decals on. They're modelled, but they're not staying, there judt a guide for when I make the maps.
Update 10

Description:
I decided to extrude the pannles that were already cut out out of the wings(version 2). You can see they are heavily pronounced as a result of Revell model kit references, but I'm not redoing them, it's not too bad.

If you guys are following FractalSponge's "TIE" thread you would see the amazing work he is doing, particularly on the modelled grills on the wings of the tie-interceptor. I absolutely loved it. The jedi fighter also has those grills so I tried to simulate what Fractal had done. I don't know if I'll keep them, just to many polys. A bump map may suffice. However, the modelled grills hold up pretty decent even at farther views.

Oh and by the way, this is version 2, modelling 99.5% finished, and I even decided to add as much of the missing details as I could.

Description:
OK, the booleans operation didn't work for the lattice, there were many places it didn't cut out. However I did get the lattice to show up by adding a metallic texture to the lattice and a matt black tecture to the polys beneath them. I think I'm going to attach the lattice as seperate objects to the winglets so they can easily be selected and removed when not needed.

You need to zoom in to see the lattice.

Need a little help here. I have an opportunity to learn some basic compositing skills, and wanted to use this. I ditched the hdr lighting set up and and went back to all max standard default materials to cut the renderring times down. I also decided to rework the maps and I'm in the process of unwrapping and getting rid of the stretching in a lot of the areas. When I brought it down to one standard shader this thing rendered in 3 secs. But after applying most of the maps it's back up to 6 minutes. Does anyone know any tricks, file formats, resolutions, to bring down the time. I'm almost thinking of being lame and mirrorring one side. Here is the render with the default set up. You can see that the maps aren't that high res, and they are jpegs. The only raytraced material is the glass. The texture on the glass is just a test to see if scratches show up. Any help would be great.
